On a backdrop of the greatest classical symphonies, from Beethoven to Dvorak and from Bach to Vivaldi, Wild Opera takes us on a journey in the company of gnus and zebras, as they embark on a huge migration, from Tanzania to Kenya and back again. The babies have just come into the world, on the vast Serengeti plains; they are rapidly going to have to learn to walk and to take on the huge expanse that stands between them and the lush green pastures of Maasai Mara.
To complicate matters, lions, cheetahs and other such predators are on the prowl. For they too have young to feed.
For the gnus and zebras, the journey is a hazardous one, laced with wild cats lying in wait behind shrubs, and the swirling, croc-infested waters of the Mara River. However, the greatest obstacle of all is the incredible distance to be covered: more than 260 miles of dangerous travel across a hostile terrain.
After spending just four months in Kenya, the great land migrators head back towards Tanzania, instinctively following the path of the rainfall. The journey back is equally dangerous...
Just three months later, about one hundred thousand new-born gnus are ready to embark on yet another great migration!
