Zodiak Entertainment Announces First Mexican Production Commission

Zodiak Entertainment today announces its first Mexican production, Beyond Boundaries. Fundación Teleton Mexico has picked up the rights to the successful format to be broadcasted by leading Mexican broadcaster, Televisa. Fundación Teleton Mexico has contracted Zodiak Entertainment Group’s Latin American production company RM 5to Elemento to produce eight episodes of the Zodiak Entertainment distributed format.

Simon Junker, Vice President Latin America, at Zodiak Entertainment and CEO, RM 5to Elemento said “We are very pleased to announce this first RM 5to Elemento production in Mexico. Mexico has historically been a very special and difficult market for international companies like ours to enter. Our first production in this interesting, vibrant territory proves once again the diversity and power of the Zodiak Entertainment catalogue, and reinforces our strategy to focus on shows that demand our rare production expertise. The Mexican TV market is a mature one with great production talent and we are looking forward to further exploiting our extensive catalogue here to build a firm presence in the country.”

RM 5to Elemento is also finalising negotiations with a number of other broadcasters in the region, for which related deals are to be announced in the coming weeks.

Beyond Boundaries is created by the UK’s Diverse Production for the BBC, it has also been produced locally by Mastiff Norway and Kanaka in Belgium, all Zodiak Entertainment Group production companies. A ground-breaking reality series, Beyond Boundaries sees a group of disabled people face the challenge of an extraordinary expedition across the wilderness. The series, filmed in high definition, records a 500 km journey across some of the world’s most difficult terrain.

Beyond Boundaries has become the most successful launch of a reality show in Norway to date, attracting a consistent audience share of 51% across the whole first series on primary broadcaster NRK where it aired in a Sunday night prime time slot. The format has also scooped two awards at the Norwegian TV industries annual award ceremony, the Gullruten Awards. Locally titled Ingen Grenser, the show won the Best Reality Show and their host Lars Monsen won the People’s Favourite Award. The show also won the local ’Media Rose’ – the prize awarded to the person or show that has promoted positive values in the Media. VRT in Belgium has acquired the rights to re-run the first series of seven episodes due to its popularity from the original run and I Productions have optioned the format for the Middle East.
